To enjoy Alsace wines the glass temperature must be cool but not iced (8° to 10°) and they must be poured into fine long stem glasses. The Alsace wines must be drunk rather young : from 1 to 7 years. |
The late grape harvest
Grapes are harvested at over developed maturation state; quite often in the second half of november. In addition to the aromatic distinctive mark of the wine, the concentration factor gives off more strength. The Riesling, for instance, remains particularly dry while gaining a lot in strength. Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris -milder wines- grow exotic fruit and spice aromas. We recommend "Riesling" to go with "en sauce" fish, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris are really gorgeous drinks with foie gras, dessert but also just as aperitif wine.

The noble rottes sweet wine
It is certainly the most extraordinary wine of Alsace. The concentration weakens the individual characteristic of each grape variety but in return it tremendously increases its strength, its complexity, its length on the palate. The work is hard and long and leads to obtain limited quantities. Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris are the most appropriate grape varieties to noble-rotted sweet wine. It makes an aperitif drink or better a drink with foie gras.
