~ Alsace promenades ~

Hunawihr is situated in the heart of the Alsace region, right in the middle of the "Route du vin".
By car, less than one hour drive from Strasbourg, Mulhouse and the Vosges Mountain "route de crêtes".
Other places of interest will be reached easily from Hunawihr.

In the village itself, you are invited to visit the XVIth century church with its fortification wall (in July and August free guided visit every Wednesday); you can also enjoy, a simple walk through the village streets by following the "Circuit du Patrimoine" signs. Other places worth visiting at a short distance (a few hundred meters) "centre de reintroduction des cigognes": a unique wild life center with hundreds of storks and otters. Next to it the "Serre aux papillons" a greenhouse in which numerous rare butterflies species are kept.
About 2 kms away (south), the famous medieval village of Riquewihr.
Same distance (west) another medieval town: Ribeauvillé with more shops and restaurants.
20 kms south: the major historical city of Colmar worth visiting on foot for the architecture and also the "Petite Venise".
20 kms north the less known of Selestat shrining the Humanistic Library of Beatus Rhénanus which exhibits very ancient books.
60 kms north: Strasbourg: The European main city, its gothic Cathedral, picturesque "Petite France" quarter, boat trips on the Ill River, its covered bridge...
Over the other side of the Rhine River –one hour drive-the beautiful Schwarz Wald (Black Forest Mountain): Freiburg and its famous Cathedral, its university, attractive shops and stores – every morning an open market is held around the Cathedral.

Sportsmen and country lovers have what they could wish in Hunawihr and around miles of pedestrian tracks through hills, woods and vineyards, marked by the "Club Vosgien"- maps of hike and ride routes are available at our apartment.
A few km away, canoes for hire will make you paddle through the beautiful Ill River scenery.
For more daring persons: the "Adventure Park" at the Lac Blanc.
Two swimming pools (indoor and outdoor) at Ribeauvillé. In summertime "Labyrinthus" is open to visitors and attracts people from over the country. While at Ribeauvillé don't miss the pedestrian track to the "3 châteaux" (3 castles).
