~ The seven Alsace grape varieties ~

To enjoy Alsace wines the glass temperature must be cool but not iced (8° to 10°) and they must be poured into fine long stem glasses. The Alsace wines must be drunk rather young : from 1 to 7 years.

The Sylvaner

It is a fresh and light wine-moderately fruity. It is recommended with seafood and fish. It is a thirst-quenching drink that suits ideally raw vegetable, hors d’oeuvre, salads and pork-meat.

The Pinot Blanc

It is a wine aqually fresh and soft in the month. A perfect happy medium in the range of Alsace wines. It is in harmony with seafood, hors-d'oeuvres and pork-meat. It is so light and pleasant that it is recommended all along a meal and between meals too.

The Riesling

Dry and racy, fruity with delicacy, this great wine offers a most delicate bouquet full of mineral and floral nuances depending on the different types of soil. Riesling is the wine of gastronomy. Absolutely matchless with fish, seafood, white meat and of course the local choucroute.

The Muscat

The fruity of this wine defies imitations. Fruity but dry – as an aperitif – it is a superb drink for your parties but it is also one of the rare wines to enhance the delicacy of a dish of asparagus.

The Pinot Gris

Quite a different wine from the Hungarian tokay. A complex aroma mixing smoke and undergrowth sensations makes it a wine rich, round an long on the palate. Excellent wine with foie gras, game, white and roast meat, liver and giblets.

The Gewurztraminer

The most popular Alsace wine all around the world. Robust and racy it releases rich and subtle aromas of fruits flowers and spices. Though powerful, it is slightly mild making a perfect drink for aperitif or meals includind exotic dishes, full bodied cheese (Munster) and pastry.

The Pinot Noir

The only alsace grape variety to produce a red or roe wine. It's distinctive character comes from a subtle cherry aroma. It will nicely mix with red meat, game, pork-meat and a certain variety of goat and gruyere cheese.

The Edelzwicker
This white wine is made of various blended grape varieties. It is recommended to start a meal with Edelzwicker.
